Art Every Day: ABOUT ARTIST LINDA HESH
Artist
Linda Hesh uses language and typography as her medium, creating works that actively engage the viewer
and draws them into collaborative participation. “I arrive at a word or sentence that exemplifies and distills a situation,” says Hesh. “These phrases appear in my photos sometimes as digital additions or physically placed on fabricated objects into styled installations. I am very conscious of speaking to an audience… And though I have definite ideas that motivate and direct my work, I encourage viewers to experience and interpret my art as it relates to their own lives.”
Hesh was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois and currently resides in Virginia working as a full time artist. Graduating Summa Cum Laude from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, she went on to receive her MFA from SUNY at New Paltz. Hesh has exhibited locally including the Art Museum of the Americas and G Fine Art as well as nationally in Bergamot Center in Los Angeles and Exit Art in New York City. Her work is held in public collections including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Kinsey Institute and the Library of Congress and has been selected for exhibitions by international curators including Milena Kalinovska, Sanford Biggers, Claudia Gould and Philip Brookman. She has been asked to speak during the Amnesty International Human Rights Art Festival and at the Renwick Museum in Washington, DC and the Rietfeld Acadamie, Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
