“The Stooges Brass Band puts on one of the most entertaining, audience-interactive shows of any band on the scene.”
The Stooges Brass Band is widely recognized as one of New Orleans’ elite brass bands. They have gained notoriety as a full-blown musical party, engaging audiences with their high-energy performances showcasing an innovative blend of traditional New Orleans brass sounds and hip-hop beats. The Stooges Brass Band create a dynamic, cut loose vibe that's contemporary yet deeply rooted in the culturally rich musical legacy of city of New Orleans.
The Stooges Brass Band victoriously battled in the finals for the title of “Red Bull Street Kings: Best Brass Band” under the iconic Claiborne Bridge in NOLA and in April 2011 were recognized as “Best Contemporary Brass Band” at the Big Easy Music Awards. The group has toured clubs throughout the country and appeared at famed festivals such at Bonnaroo, South by Southwest, headlining the Utah Arts Festival, Discover Jazz Festival, American Folk Festival, High Sierra Music Festival, Great American Brass Band Festival and more.
In June 2012, the band was invited by the U.S. Consulate to serve as cultural ambassadors to New Orleans on a two week tour through Pakistan. As part of a cultural exchange mission, the Stooges funked up Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad and Hyderabad, where they apparently were the first-ever American band to perform. The tour culminated with a collaboration between Pakistani singer Asif Sinan and the Stooges on a song called “Yaro Yahe Dosti Hay.”
The Good Thing is a funk band from the Nation's Capital, but soul, rock and blues can also be heard in their unique sound. The Good Thing is not afraid to challenge the audience and keep them on their toes. Dancing and grooving are in order as the band goes from old school blues 'n' funk to classic soul, only to surprise you with some rock thrown in for good measure. Since the explosion of funk music in the 1970's, DC has been a city dedicated to giving up the funk!! The Good Thing seeks to continue that tradition and blends together all the composite elements, while bringing some fresh new perspectives to the mix. While the band is made up of serious musicians, the music is meant to be fun and that’s rule number one. So let's get funky and get down!
