"A mixture of bluegrass and hip-hop that might repel some purists on either side of the country-and-rap divide, but will knock the socks off just about everybody else."
– The Wall Street Journal
Low down honky tonk meets block rockin’ beats as Artisphere brings back the unique musical fusion that is Gangstagrass. Gangstagrass was born from the musical mind of creator Rench, who was reared on pure bluegrass and country at home while break dancing at his grade school yard. This Brooklyn-based band mixes bluegrass and rap and has quite possibly forged an entirely new and modern genre of utterly American music. Though the band name may not be readily known to some, many already know their sound as their song “Long Hard Times To Come,” which is the theme song that opens every episode of the FX hit Justified and was nominated in 2010 for an Emmy as the “Best Theme Song.” They will be releasing their latest album, Broken Hearts and Stolen Money, on January 15.
Joining Gangstagrass is beloved DC roots-rock group, The Walkaways, and the local funk inspired Americana group Wes Tucker & The Skillets.
